The track season opened for Wewahichka Jr./Sr. High School last week with a meet at Liberty County High School.

The track season opened for Wewahichka Jr./Sr. High School last week with a meet at Liberty County High School.

“We did really well,” said Coach Mary Holley.

Haley Edmondson won the high jump and Sha Mario Cole finished first in the 800 meters. The Lady Gator 4 by 800 relay of Cole, Rayanna Penix, Landin Johnson and Karen Burch also finished first. Norma Peoples took second in the 1,600 meters.

For the boys, Elijah Sarmiento was a double-winner, taking the 1,600 meters as well as the 800 meters. The 4 by 400 relay team of Daniel Wymes, Hunter Hysmith, Sarmiento and Jeff Hunter and the 4 by 800 relay team of Hysmith, Jonah Bidwell, Kaleb Shiver and Kaden Phillips each finished first.

Blake Harrison was second in the shot put and the discus and finished behind Sarmiento in the 800 meters.

The 4 by 100 relay team of Wymes, Hunter, Hysmith and Shiver finished second.

The Wewahitchka track teams were back in action Wednesday, again at Liberty County.
