Mr. Donald M. Burkett, 76, of Howard Creek passed away Sunday November 5, 2017 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born December 10, 1940 at Indian Pass and lived in Howard Creek for the past 12 years moving from St. Joe Beach.

Donald was first a husband, father, papa, and brother. His nature was loving and giving, his heart was made of pure Gold, and to us who truly love him, his memory will never grow old.

He served in the US Navy for 4 years, worked at the telephone company for a short period, then retired from the St. Joe Paper Company after 36 years. He also helped with the Search and Rescue as a diver, as he loved being on the water.

He loved his family, being married for 57 years to Jewell Burkett. They have three children, Willard (Sandra) Burkett, Jewell (Chuck) Hopper, and Pat (John) Strayer. His grandchildren are Ashley (Mike), David, Brandon (Heather), Stephanie (Justin), Travis, and J.D. (Kelly). His little loving great grandkids Kaydence, Danyell, Nathan, Aleiyah, McKenna, Blylee, Bralynn, and Jack. His sisters Floria (Jimmy) Lolley, Gloria (AL) Quick. Brothers Jimmy Burkett, Eugene (Brenda) Burkett, 1 brother in law JR Coley, and a very special family friend Dale Sowell.

The services will be held Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Hope Family Worship Center at 1 p.m. ET, with Brother Glenn Davis officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hope Family Worship Center, 2001 Garrison Avenue, Port St. Joe, FL 32456.

Asked to serve as pallbearers are Randy Chancey, Vic Quintanilla, Victor Quintanilla Jr., Royce Chancey, Fred Hunter, and Jamie Mayhann.

All services are under the direction of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St Joe.
