Have you started planning your Thanksgiving Dinner with all the fixings?

Have you started planning your Thanksgiving Dinner with all the fixings? Are you having to worry about where the money is coming from to buy your groceries? What if your pantry was bare and you had to decide whether to feed your family a meal, buy medicine, pay your electric bill, or buy winter shoes for your grandchild who is now living with you. Literally hundreds of our County residents have to make that choice every day. The Gulf County Food Bank is their lifeline. Without it, many would be hungry every day. There are over 400 families who are dependent on the Food Bank and 90 percent of their clients are elderly or disabled and unable to work.

The Coastal Community Association, South Gulf Volunteer Fire Department, St. Joseph Bay Golf Club, Duren’s Piggly Wiggly, Brenden and Cindy Murphy, and Gulf 2 Bay Construction have joined together to sponsor a Food Drive to obtain donated nonperishable food items or the funds to go shopping for the needed food.

There are drop off locations at Piggly Wiggly, Capital City Bank and Sunset Coastal Grill in Port St. Joe and St Joseph Bay Golf Club, SGVFD, and Gulf 2 Bay Construction in South Gulf County for your convenience to donate nonperishable food item. Remember those emergency hurricane ratios you put aside for the storms?

They won’t be good for next year’s storms, but they surely could help at the Food Bank now. Please bring them on down.

Several local clubs and businesses have stepped up to the plate with cash donations to help, such as the Lions Club, Ladies Golf Association, Indian Pass Turtle Patrol, Coastal Community Association, Piggly Wiggly, Gulf 2 Bay Construction and Brenden and Cindy Murphy, as well as local individuals, who are determined that no one is going to be hungry in Gulf County this Holiday season. The St. Joseph Bay Golf Club is giving $5 off per game for a donation of food items by golfers from Nov. 5-12.

Because of the generosity of many fine folks in Gulf County, we are making good progress, but we still have a long way to go to fill the pantry at the Food Bank for the Holidays. The donated items or cash donations must be in prior to Nov. 17, so we can get all the food to the Food Bank for distribution for Thanksgiving.

Tax deductible cash donations can be made to Coastal Community Initiates and sent to 1934 SR 30A, Port St. Joe, FL 32456 or dropped off at any of the locations and we will shop at a discount for you.

As you are considering your Thanksgiving and Holiday plans, please consider sharing your blessings by helping make this Food Drive successful. Make your donation today. With your help, no one goes hungry in Gulf County. You will make a difference! God bless you for caring and sharing your blessings.
