Christmas on the Coast Saturday

The weekend calendar, as befitting a holiday season, is bustling with the headliner the annual “Christmas on the Coast” parade in Port St. Joe.

Among the local floats and presentations will be the Shriners, who will bringing several members of their parade corps over to heighten the festivities.

“Christmas on the Coast” will arrive Saturday with the annual parade kicking it off at 6 p.m. ET.

This year’s parade, which begins at State 77 and Reid Ave. and travels to First Street, will identify the top presentations in each of four categories.

Those categories include Schools and Non-Profits, Family and Friends, Business and Faith-Based.

The line-up for the parade is 5 p.m. ET; judges will begin their review at 5 p.m.

For the safety of everyone, the city is asking candy is not thrown from the floats or vehicles.

Walkers only should be beside the floats to hand out candy.

Santa will be part of the parade and has indicated he will stick around after the parade for photos with the young ones in City Commons Park adjacent to City Hall.




2. JSL sponsors “The Nutcracker.” The Junior Service League of Port St. Joe will sponsor its fourth annual production of “The Nutcracker” 4 p.m. ET Sunday on the stage in George Core Park.

This is a free live performace and folks are encouraged to bring their chairs and blankets to enjoy the production.

Storytelling, acting and dancing will be performed by the dancers from Emerald Dance Academy and Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School students, led by Barbie Walker and Erin Payner.

Sets will be crafted by Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School art students and there will be a free “Land of Sweets” candy bar for the children.

The show will last approximately one hour after which photos can be taken with the cast.




3. Enjoy a holiday celebration at the historic Port Theatre. The Port Theatre Holiday Celebration will be held 6:30 p.m. ET tonight. The Torreya String Trio will perform and the night also includes a festival concert from the Gulf Coast State College Jazz Band, complete with caroling sing-a-long. Cost is $100 per person and includes hors d’oeuvres, dinner, dessert and coffee bar, open bar included. Tables for 6-8 people are available by reservation. Holiday attire and seating is limited. 4. A round of golf for Christmas Wishes. The annual Jingle Bell Golf Tournament in support of the GCSO’s Christmas Wishes program is Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ET with a rain date of Sunday Dec. 10 at 12:30 p.m. The tournament format is individual play with handicap from your normal tee. Get $10 off tournament entry fee if you bring in a new toy. Members $55 and non-members $65. You will have a chance to win a vehicle for Hole-in-One on any Par 3.
