Robert “Bob” L. Stebel, 79, of Wewahitchka, passed away peacefully at his home in the early hours of Saturday, January 6, 2018. He was born to Charles and Ella Stebel on June 16, 1938 in White City, FL. He had been a lifelong resident of Gulf County, living next door to the house where he was born. His family moved here from Pahokee, FL around 1936 and built the Wimico Lodge in White City. They were originally from Wood County, Ohio.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Marie Nelson (Fred) and Jean L. Smith (J.P), and brother, Theodore Stebel.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved his family, turkey hunting, fishing, his bird dogs, photography, helping people, and his garden. Bob served four years in the United States Air Force and ended his service in Ruislip, England. He belonged to the Port St. Joe Masonic Lodge and retired from Vitro Services and BAE Systems Microwave Station at Cape San Blas as an Electronic Technician after 38 years of service in 1999.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Cherry Heape (Joel); grandchildren: Dalton Stebel, Edison Heape, Deidra Heape; Joel A. Heape Jr. (Rischa) and Joshua S. Heape (Kelsey). He was also survived by his former spouse that he met and married in London, England, Jean Stebel, as well as several special nieces and nephews.

Memorialization will be by cremation, and a celebration of Bob’s life will be held at his home win White City, FL on February 3, 2018. In lieu of flowers, we ask if you would like to make a donation, please do so to the St. Joseph Bay Humane Society.
