A concealed handgun course is scheduled for April 14 at the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office’s shooting range, 3451 La. 182, Raceland.

It will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a break for lunch. Topics will include terminology, safe firearm handling, ammunition, shooting, cleaning, deadly force, conflict resolution and preventing child access to guns.

Live range fire will include 12 rounds each at 5, 10 and 15 feet. Participants must perform at least one safe reload at each distance and score 100 percent in the silhouette portion of a target.

Participants must supply their own eye and ear protection and 50 rounds of ammunition. The course is required for anyone applying for a concealed handgun permit in Louisiana.
