In an effort to assist families recovering from Hurricane Michael, Current Initiatives (Current) is gearing up to wash and dry approximately 1,000 loads of laundry at a Port St. Joe laundromat, at no cost. The Laundry Project provides the funds and items necessary to wash and dry clothes and linens. Laundry fees are paid while volunteers assist with laundry services, entertain children, and create a caring space at the laundromat.

The Laundry Project will be Port St. Joe, at the Laundry Basket, 327 Reid Ave., 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. ET Monday and Tuesday.

Redner Family Foundation, The REALTORS® Association of Franklin and Gulf Counties and LaundryCares Foundation serve as sponsors for the event, however additional volunteers and supplies are still needed for the projects.

Members of the community can contribute by donating much-needed supplies including: laundry detergent/bleach, quarters (rolls of $10), one-gallon Ziploc bags, garbage bags, fabric softener and laundry baskets.

Current Initiatives is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization incorporated in Florida that started with young adults committed to educating others on current social initiatives and mobilizing them to bring about change.

Founded in 2008, the Laundry Project has assisted low-income families in more than 30 cities across the country. To date, the organization has washed more than 118,000 loads of laundry for approximately 12,000 families in more than 460 laundry service projects nationwide.
