The Wewahitchka Jr./Sr. High School are their accustomed path as May rolls around, district champions and looking for more.

The Lady Gators (18-6) beat Franklin County 2-0 last week to win the District 4-1A crown and earn a home spot at the Region 1-1A playoffs begin this week.

Wewahitchka, winners of 11 of their past 12 games, will host Jay (20-5) in a region semifinal 7 p.m. tonight.

A victory would advance the Lady Gators to the region title game Tuesday in Wewahitchka against the winner of a Franklin County versus Northview semifinal, also played tonight at Northview.

Wewahitchka has not played Jay this year and the two teams have one common opponent.

The Lady Gators beat Freeport 15-0 while Jay beat Freeport, a district foe, 7-4 and 3-0.

The teams have nearly identical records home, away and on neutral fields.

Against Franklin County last week, Haley Guffey tossed a five-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking one.

Cyrina Madrid tripled, doubled, walked and scored both Wewahitchka runs.

Guffey and Savannah Lister each singled and Aleah Wooten drove in a run.
