The 69-year-old great-grandmother who was arrested for carrying CBD oil while visiting Disney World last month has planned to sue both Disney and the Orange County Sheriff’s office, WKMG Orlando reported.
The North Carolina woman was using the CBD oil per her doctor’s suggestion to treat her arthritis, but the note from her doctor stating this wasn’t enough to prevent her arrest -- or the $2,000 bond.
While her charges were later dropped, this case only heightens confusion. Despite the fact that CBD oil is sold on store shelves across the state of Florida, it’s still technically illegal in the state (unless the user has a prescription), the New York Post stated.
“A little drop of oil, with the CBD, is a felony,” Jennifer Synnamon, a Florida attorney, told Fox 35 Orlando.
Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump is representing the woman, and attorneys are expected to announce the lawsuit at 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to WKMG Orlando.
