Howard Wayne Neel, 65, of Tallahassee, passed away at Capital Regional Medical Center on July 26, 2019.
Wayne was the son of the late Howard Thomas and Ruthie Mae Long Neel and grew up in Port St. Joe, FL. After graduating from Port St. Joe High School, Wayne and a group of musicians left home with hopes of fulfilling their dream of recording a big hit. They traveled for several years throughout several states. Tired of being on the road, they returned to Tallahassee and settled in as the House band (Southern Satisfaction) for a club called Rocky’s. Over several years and several bands later, Wayne decided to start his own business “Home Remodeling and Repairs.” He later took a position with Pafford Oil where he retired. He continued to play music part time.
Survivors include his wife, Fonda Neel; brother, Virgil Neel (Debbie); daughter, Felisa Calhoun (John); sons, Robert Porter, Donald Porter (Melissa) and Michael Porter (Jackie); six grandchildren and sister and brother in heart, Linda and Eric Freeman.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2019 at the Fort Braden Community Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wayne’s name may be made to the Port Theater and Cultural Center, PO Box 1141, Port St. Joe, FL 32457.
