Loss is a part of life. No one is ever prepared to deal with the tremendous grief from losing a family member or a friend. For many, it is the hardest thing they have ever faced. Grief causes a roller coaster of emotions and people experience it in many different ways. Grieving is not a sign of weakness or a lack of faith. Actually, it is an expression of love and it takes courage to come to a group and learn how to heal. The local GriefShare support group is available to help you with the challenges of loss.

Thousands of church-sponsored GriefShare support groups meet throughout the United States. Long Avenue Baptist Church sponsors this program for our area. The next GriefShare 13-week support group starts on Saturday, Feb. 1. The group will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. ET in the Administration Building.

Each session is self-contained and any adult is invited to attend at any time. No matter when or how the loss happened, GriefShare can help you. Each session includes three elements:

1. The group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery. Outlines of each video are in the personal workbook.

2. The group then spends time discussing the video and sharing what they are experiencing. (There is no requirement to share.)

3. During the week, participants use their workbook for further study and support. (Workbooks are $15 and scholarships are available.)

Help and encouragement are available. GriefShare is a safe place to grieve and be comforted. For more information call Sam Haltom (970-871-0151) or Linda Haltom (970-846-1130).
