Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf provides several free “Living Well With Diabetes” classes for adults diagnosed with diabetes or prediabetes. In addition, classes are open to anyone interested in learning more about the condition. Instructor is John Griggs, MSN, RN-BC, CDCES, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist.

Diabetes is a complex and serious disease, and managing it every day can be challenging. To support those diagnosed with diabetes, diabetes educators have developed key focus areas. A diabetes educator can help participants set priorities and coach them on each of these areas, including healthy eating, being active, blood glucose monitoring, taking medication, problem solving, reducing risks and healthy coping.

Classes are offered once a month in Port St. Joe and Wewahitchka. Classes are designed to help community members and their loved ones successfully manage diabetes. Each monthly seminar covers a variety of topics. Participants will learn the skills they need to manage their condition and prevent complications.

In Port St. Joe, classes are held 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. ET the second Tuesday of each month at Ascension Sacred Heart Gulf, 3801 U.S. 98 East, Conference Room A/B. A meal ticket for the hospital cafeteria will be provided to each participant.

In Wewahitchka, classes are 10-11 a.m. CT the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Wewahitchka-Gulf County Health Department, 807 State 22.

Space is limited, and registration is suggested. Griggs also is available for one-on-one appointments.
