William Shelton “Billy” Quarles, 87, of Port St. Joe, Florida, much loved father of William S. “Biff” Quarles (Carol) of Tallahassee, Florida, Susan Quarles Harmon (T. Craig) of Richmond, Virginia, and Anne Smith Quarles (Margaret Elmore) of Hillsborough, North Carolina, passed away Monday, December 2, 2019. His wife, Jacquelyn Logan Kenney Quarles and son, Robert Logan Quarles predeceased Billy. Grandchildren who treasured their Papa and his love of the outdoors including hunting, fishing and boating are Jessica Anne Quarles (Kevin Landwehr), Molly Quarles Whitfield (Lee), William Logan Quarles, Caroline Harmon Werner (Jacob), Ezra Palmer Harmon (Jeffrey Gould), Grace Logan Harmon, Ashley Quarles Thornhill (Tanner) and Benjamin Fisher Quarles. Ten great grandchildren also survive Billy. Although Billy was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, he was quite an Auburn fan, attending the University there before he served in the US Army at the end of the Korean conflict. A loyal employee of PPG (Glidden) for many years, Billy stayed on as the company transitioned to Sylvachem, from which he retired. After retirement, Billy enjoyed various positions with the City of Port St. Joe. A memorial service will be held at Faith Christian School Chapel, 801 20th Street in Port St. Joe, Florida, on January 2, 2020, at 2 p.m. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Our Home at Beacon Hill, Cross Shores Nursing Home in Port St. Joe, and The Windsor Memory Care Center in Richmond, Virginia, for their loving care of Billy.
