Central Lafourche’s boys basketball team held off District 7-5A rival Terrebonne, 61-57, in overtime in Houma on Wednesday.

The Trojans, who entered Wednesday’s game fresh off a thrilling 54-53 win over Thibodaux in Mathews on Tuesday, improved to 13-7 overall and 3-2 in district play.

Terrebonne led 7-5 after the first quarter, the score was tied at 21 at halftime and Terrebonne held a 32-28 advantage after the third quarter. The game was tied at 47 at the end of regulation.

Central Lafourche went on a 14-10 run in overtime to pull off the win.

Jamiree Williams led the Trojans with 14 points. Other leaders for Central Lafourche were Marvin Robertson Jr. (13 points), Marvion Poindexter (10 points), Kevin Mott (10 points) and Alex Sanders (six points; made 4-of-4 free throws in the overtime session).

The Trojans played without senior David Robinson Jr., who missed the game with an ankle injury. Robertson, a standout point guard, fouled out the game in fourth quarter.

But Central Lafourche coach Mark Sanders said he was proud of the Trojans (29-of-45 free throws) for pulling off another close win.

“It wasn’t a perfect game, but I’m very pleased,” Coach Sanders said. “Any way we can get a win, we’ll take it. We stuck with our game plan and made our free throws down the stretch. Our guys played together at the right time. I’m proud of them for helping us get our 13th win of the season.”

Daveyon Smith led Terrebonne (6-15 overall, 0-4 in district) with 17 points, while Jakhi Douglas scored 13 points, Treveon Johnson had 11 points and KeShawn James finished with 10 points. The Tigers went 9-of-20 from the free throw line.
