MATHEWS -- In Tuesday night’s 12-2 win over the Central Lafourche Trojans, the E.D. White Catholic pitching combination of Devin Desandro and Gabe Theiss did something that few players get to experience: a no-hitter.

The Trojans scored both of their runs on errors. Desandro went four full innings, walking two and striking out five, while Theiss finished the fifth with one strikeout to secure the win for the Cardinals (5-1 overall).

E.D. White coach David Constant praised the effort of his sophomore starter, who kept the Trojan bats at bay.

“Devin Desandro was lights out,” Constant said. “The job that he and Theiss did was remarkable. Devin is a special kid and we are very blessed to have him.”

Desandro said his offense made the night easier for him, as the Cardinals scored runs in every inning after being shut down in the first.

“I felt pretty good tonight, Desandro said. “Once the bats came alive it made me a lot more relaxed and I just let my defense do their job.”

It was the Trojans (3-3) who struck first, as Trojan starter Brandon Babin retired the Cardinals in order to open the game.

In the bottom half of the first inning, the Trojans plated two runs on Cardinal fielding errors to take the early 2-0 lead.

After Drake Babin reached on a ball that went through the legs of Cardinal shortstop Hayden Falgout, Blake Trant walked during the next at-bat.

Another fielding error on an at-bat by Logan Wilcox allowed for a fielder’s choice RBI from Jonathan Potter to give Central Lafourche the early 1-0 lead.

A fielding error on the relay throw by Desandro during an at-bat by Cameron Labit allowed for another Trojan run to score, giving Central Lafourche the 2-0 lead entering the second inning.

The Cardinals answered in the top half of the second as a two-run single to centerfield by Parker Caddou (2-for-2, two RBIs) tied the game at 2.

Two batters later, Babin hit Wes Toups with the bases loaded to make the score 3-2 in the Cardinals favor before Desandro helped his own cause with a two-run single to centerfield to put E.D. White on top 5-2.

The Cardinals added their sixth run of the inning on a wild pitch, and added another when Brandon Legendre stole home on a pickoff play to give his team a commanding 7-2 lead.

After a scoreless third inning, the Cardinals used an RBI double from Mike Clement to increase their lead to 8-2 before adding four more runs in the top half of the fifth inning to run-rule the Trojans.

Trojan pitcher Derek Landry walked Toups with bases loaded to plate Austin Albares and push the lead to 9-2.

The Cardinals scored their final of the 12 runs without having to swing the bat as a throwing error on an attempted pickoff play plated Collin Desandro to give E.D. White a 10-2 lead.

Two batters later, Landry walked Meyer to push the Cardinals lead to 11-2 before a wild pitch on the following at-bat allowed the final E.D. White run to push across the plate.

Babin received the loss for the Trojans, allowing six earned runs on three hits while walking four and striking out two.
