The Wewahitchka Jr./Sr. High School wrestling team competed at the inaugural George Mulligan Memorial tournament at Bay High School over the weekend.

The Gators, one of just two Class 1A teams in the 18-team field and competing with just four wrestlers finished 17th.

Justin Johnson (14-27 overall) reached the main draw semifinals at 106 pounds, but lost in that round and lost again in the consolation semifinals before bouncing back to take the fifth-place match with a pin.

At 120 pounds, Conner Roberts (34-18) lost in a tiebreaker to a wrestler from Niceville in the main draw and followed that with four-straight wins in the consolation rounds before losing on the consolation semifinals.

He lost the fifth-place match to the same Niceville wrestler who edged him in the second round and settled for sixth.

Jaden Moseley, at 132 pounds, also finished sixth, winning his first two matches in the main draw and his first two matches in the consolation rounds until losing in the consolation semifinals and falling in the fifth-place match.

Kaylee Easter, competing at 126 pounds, reached the second round of the main draw and fifth round of consolation wrestlebacks before earning 11th place with a pin over a wrestler from Milton.
