The Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School track team is not shying away from competing against some of the best track programs in the region.

After a couple of meets in Bay County, Port St. Joe traveled to South Walton last weekend for the Seahawk Invitational and a meet featuring a field of 12 teams, none of them in Port St. Joe’s Class 1A other than the host school.

The field featured, among others, large schools Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, Arnold, Mosley, Rutherford and Bay.

Despite the stiff test, Port St. Joe had a number of athletes finish in the top 10 in their respective events.

For the Lady Tiger Sharks, Lily Wockenfus won second in the pole vault with Emily Lacour sixth and London White ninth.

The pole vault was the only event a Tiger Shark finished in the top 10, with Bladen Levins, just a ninth-grader, earning sixth.

Lacour also took second in the high jump and Jahneese Braithwaite was second in the long jump.

Kristen Bouington finished just out of the top 10 in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, but took ninth in the javelin.

Continuing in the field events, Jade Cothran took seventh in the triple jump with Damari Johnson eighth and Amani Jones ninth.

On the track, Cothran took fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with Jones sixth and Johnson eighth.

Cothran also took 10th in the 100-meter hurdles.

Madelyn Gortemoller was ninth in the 400 meters.
