It’s back and there’s no need to discuss popular demand.

There has always been heaping helpings.

Special Events for Mexico Beach is “elated” to announce the return, for a 21st edition, of the Mexico Beach Gumbo Cook-Off on Saturday, Feb. 22.

Recovery continues in Mexico Beach and “an old tradition is back.”

The event will be held at the Mexico Beach Boat Ramp Park starting at 10 a.m. CT until the gumbo runs out.

Once again proud chefs will be competing for the coveted “Best Gumbo” and “Best Brunswick Stew” bragging rights and some cash prizes.

There will also be sausage and hot dogs, beer, wine, soft drinks and tee shirts and much more available for purchase. Live entertainment will also be provided.

For those who think they have the best recipe, applications are available online at www.MexicoBeach.com.

As a special extra to celebrate the cook-off a hand-made memorial quilt, which will make a beautiful addition to any home, will be raffled off.

This quilt was made and donated by Betty Prentice. Raffle tickets are on sale now at the Mexico Beach Welcome Center, located at 102 Canal Parkway.

For more information please call 648-8196.

And the Gumbo Cook-Off is not the only major event returning this year to Mexico Beach.

Each year the Special Events for Mexico Beach raised funds throughout the year to sponsor the Best Blast on the Beach fireworks display on the Fourth of July.

This year’s show is back and everyone can look forward to a patriotic celebration of our nation’s birthday.
