Port St. Joe girl lifters take second in district

With contributions up and down the weight classes, the Port St. Joe Jr./Sr. High School girls’ weightlifting team finished second in the District 3-1A meet over the weekend in Altha.

The host school won the team title in the eight-team field.

Further, the Lady Tiger Sharks had 10 athletes qualify for this weekend’s Region 1-1A meet and four lifters finished second in their weight classes.

For Port St. Joe, Taylor Campbell was second at 110 pounds, lifting 95-105-200 (bench, clean-and-jerk, total) and Savannah Burkett took second at 119 pounds, lifting 110-125-235.

At 129 pounds, Annalyn Hawkins was second with 100-105-205 and Gabrielle Nicodemus was also a district runner-up, at 154 pounds, with lifts of 140-155-295.

Sarah Metcalf also qualified for region at 119 pounds, taking third with 105-115-220.

Emily Barwick took fourth, and qualified for region, at 139 pounds with lifts of 100-120-220.

Jolie Moore (95-105-200 for fourth at 154 pounds), Eileen Madrid (90-95-185 for fourth at 198 pounds), Hagen Parrish (140-135-275, Unlimited) and Madison Burkett (115-115-230, Unlimited) were each regional qualifiers.

Also competing for Port St. Joe were Chelsea Bishop, Neva Andrews and Sarah Flowers, each of which came up short in region qualifying.
