Working toward qualifying for the state high school tournament this spring, three teams from the Wewahitchka Fishing Club participated in B.A.S.S. High School regional and state qualifiers at Lake Okeechobee last weekend.

The Wewahitchka senior team was Caden Wooten and Hayden McDaniel; the two Wewahitchka junior teams were Caleb and Zeke Cooper and Maddox Melvin and Casen Reynolds.

After an eight-hour road trip, they fished against more than 140 other teams, fighting rain the first day and high winds and cold temperatures the second.

All three teams brought in fish both days, with Wooten and McDaniel hitting the five-fish limit both days.

Wooten and McDaniel finished 22nd out of 143 teams in the state qualifying tournament Sunday.

“We had a great weekend traveling, battling weather conditions and tough fishing competition,” said Coach Brooke Wooten.
