FCA Cheerleaders at Jamfest, Seniors advance to U.S. Finals

The Forgotten Coast Athletics Junior and Senior competitive All-Star cheerleading teams spent this past Saturday in Kissimmee, FL at the spirited Jamfest competition, each placing third in their respective categories.

Forgotten Coast Athletics Gym owner, Stephanie Peterson, said while both teams had zero deductions, and the juniors obtained their highest score of the season, there is much work to be done.

“Both teams are now going to U.S. Finals in Pensacola on April 25-26,” said Peterson. “We need to continue to increase our difficulty scores while maintaining our execution scores.

“Athletes need to work hard and put extra hours in at the gym before our next competition on March 7 in Fort Walton Beach. I am very proud of both teams!”

With the second season competition schedule becoming increasingly intense and the likelihood of illnesses and injuries on the uptick, FCA Cheer Boosters want to remind the cheerleaders and the community that balance is the key and taking care of their mind, body, and spirit a must.

Eleven-year-old Tristan Connell loves to travel, compete, and win with his cheer family but feels coming home and celebrating with his community makes it even better.

“We didn’t go there just to win; we went there to have fun, and to hit a perfect routine and we did just that even though having athletes who were injured and sick made it difficult, we still did great,” Connell said.

“This weekend, we celebrated hitting a perfect routine, and my teammates surprised me with balloons and gifts for my birthday! We are a cheer family and support each other. We also rely on the community for support.”

Parent and FCA Cheer Booster, Krystal Terry, encouraged parents in the community to show their support by celebrating Valentine’s Day Friday from 6-10 p.m. at the “K-6 Glow Dance Party & Parents Valentine's Night Out” at the First United Methodist Church in Port St. Joe.

“What better way to spend Valentine's Night than to send your K-6th grader to a Glow Dance Party where they can join the FCA Cheer Boosters and Cheerleaders for a night of pizza, dancing, games, and glow-tastic fun,” said Terry.

Fundraiser tickets are $20/child in advance and can be purchased through Eventbrite or $25 at the door, and include a pizza dinner, chips, drink, and a glow item. Candy, sweets, and additional glow items will be available for purchase through our Cheerleader Concessions during the party.
