Gators advance three grapplers to region

The Wewahitchka Jr./Sr. High School wrestling team advanced three of four wrestlers to the Region 1-1A meet during the District 1-1A meet last weekend.

Jaden Moseley finished second while Justin Johnson and Conner Roberts each finished third; the top four wrestlers in each class advance to the region meet.

Moseley, 39-23 on the season at 132 pounds, opened with a pin of Elijah Galloway Rutherford and pinned Joseph Beggs of Panama City Beach Arnold in just 17 seconds in the semifinals.

Canyon Dart from South Walton scored a 6-5 decision over Moseley in the championship match.

At 106 pounds, Johnson, 20-32 on the season, opened with a pin of Williams Lundgren from North Bay Haven in less than a minute but fell to Porter Beach of Arnold on a 6-3 decision in the semifinals.

Johnson bounced back in the consolation rounds, pinning Thomas Pluhar of Rocky Bayou Christian and beating Brett Canut from South Walton 12-11 in the third-place match.

Roberts, 44-21 at 120 pounds this season, followed a similar path.

Roberts opened with a pin of Katherine Lundgren of North Bay Haven before losing in the semifinals to Will Ashby of Arnold on a 7-0 decision.

But in the consolation rounds, Roberts pinned Nicholas Simental of Bozeman and followed that with a pin of Jaime Balmaceda of Bay High to take third place.

Kylee Easter, 16-36 at 126 pounds on the season, lost a quarterfinal match, received a bye in the opening round of the consolation rounds and was pinned by Luke Latham of Rocky Bayou Christian in the consolation semifinals.
