Lady Gators open 2-0

The Wewahitchka Jr./Sr. High School softball team opened the season with a pair of commanding wins.

After shutting out Blountstown 10-0 at home, the Lady Gators traveled to Franklin County and routed the Lady Seahawks 13-2.

Wewahitchka hosts Altha 6 p.m. CT tonight, travels to Liberty County 6 p.m. CT Friday and hosts Franklin County 6 p.m. CT Tuesday.

Blountstown

Savannah Lister pitched a six-inning shutout, allowing just five hits against no walks, and the Lady Gators scored five runs in the fourth frame to take command.

In addition to eight hits, Wewahitchka was a perfect nine-for-nine in stolen bases and added a sacrifice fly.

Cyrina Madrid was 2 for 3, including a double, stole four bases, scored three runs and drove in two to help pace the Lady Gators.

Haley Guffey was 2 for 3, drove in two runs and scored one and Gracie Price had a hit and sacrifice fly, drove in three runs and scored.

Morgan Mayhann doubled and scored.

Aleah Wooten added an RBI double and scored three times, Tamiah Rouse drove in a run, Rebecca Shealy scored a run and Kristen Thompson singled.

In addition to Madrid’s four steals, Price, Mayhann, Wooten, Rebecca Shealy and Katie Shealy had stolen bases.

Franklin County

Guffey was her best friend in the domination of Franklin County.

In the circle, she tossed five innings while allowing four hits, two earned runs and one walk and striking out nine.

At the plate, Guffey added a home run, double and single and drove in six runs.

The Lady Gators scored all their runs in the final three innings, 10 in the final two, as the game was called after five frames on the run rule.

The Lady Gators also pounded out 14 hits.

Wooten had two hits, scored four runs and drove in two and Price had a double, scored three times and drove in two.

Madrid was 2 for 4 with a steal and scored twice and Thompson doubled, singled, drove in two and scored.

Katie Shealy added a hit and scored twice, Rouse a hit and Lister a hit and a run.
