Lady Tiger Sharks fall to Holmes County
On Saturday morning, the Lady Tiger Sharks traveled to Graceville to take on the #1 team in the state in Class 1A Holmes County Blue Devils. The shoot-out is called the “Red Hot Classic.”
Port St Joe led after the first quarter 11-10, and it started tight in the second stanza with the Lady Tiger Sharks up 23-20 at half. The Blue Devils made a small run in the third, taking the lead midway, but Port St. Joe came back by the end of the third to led 35-29.
The final quarter was back and forth, as Holmes took a one-point lead with 48 seconds left. Port St. Joe earned a technical foul that gave Holmes two extra shoots and the ball. Holmes County hit both and got the ball.
Port St. Joe’s last chance was a half-court shot that missed, and they lost 47-44.
Stats were led by junior Mimi Larry with 16 points, 4 rebounds, one block, one steal and 3 assists; sophomore Jae Lenox with 15 points, 1 rebound, 7 assists, 2 steals and 1 block; sophomore Mari Johnson, who was in foul trouble the whole game, with 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals; junior Amani Jones with 4 points, 13 rebounds, 5 steals and 1 block; and junior Jahneese Brathwaite with 4 points, and a rebound, assist and steal.
Port St. Joe has a pair of district games this week, at Liberty County Tuesday and this Friday evening at Blountstown.
