This holiday season use this 2019 gift guide to help you choose that special someone the perfect bottle of whiskey.

Let’s be honest, one of the worst things about the holidays (besides being forced to spend time with your in-laws) is spending time racking your brain over what to get the ones you (love? like? endure?) during the season of giving.

Of course there are several options that would be great under the Christmas tree, but what about that special person in your life who prefers their gifts more, liquidy? Rocks glasses and barware would likely be a welcomed sight but, think about it, wouldn’t you prefer a delicious bottle of whiskey left by good old Saint Nick?

Thankfully you don’t have to travel far for your gift. Most of these bottles can be picked up at your local liquor store. If you’re really ahead of the game, companies like Drizly will deliver the booze to your home. All you have to do is gift wrap it. Whether you’ve got money to burn or would rather not break the bank to gift a good bottle of whiskey, this list has got you covered.

Timber Creek Distillery

You don’t have to look to Tennessee or Kentucky for whiskey – thankfully Florida has gotten into the game. Timber Creek Distillery, located just outside of Pensacola, is turning out respectable whiskey in the Panhandle. Their Southern Reserve Florida Whiskey is distilled from 90 percent Florida grains and also only uses Florida limestone-rich water. This four-part grain formula features corn, wheat, rye and barley which gives the whiskey an unmistakable buttery flavor. Bottled at 100-proof, this whiskey will stand out in any cocktail.

St. Augustine Distillery

St. Augustine Distillery may be new to the spirit-making game, but their Port Finished Bourbon sure doesn’t taste like it. This elegant expression is made by a second aging process that is finished up in port barrels. The flavors are explosive with notes of cinnamon, cloves and jammy raisins. Any Floridian would be lucky to have a bottle of this stuff to add to a home bar.

Bulleit Frontier Whiskey

Saddle up to any respectable bar and you’re sure to find an eye-catching bottle of Bulleit just waiting to be mixed into something delicious. While this spirit is a relative newcomer -- the company wasn’t founded until the 1980s -- thanks to its distinctively peppery flavor, it has shot to the top of popularity charts.

If spice isn’t what you’re looking for, however, don’t worry. Bulleit has other whiskeys for you to choose from. Their 10-year bourbon is silky on the tongue with hints of vanilla bean, dried cranberries and a soft smoky kiss. With a reasonable price of about $50, you can gift a bottle and keep one for yourself.

Wild Turkey Master’s Keep

Granted, this bourbon is a bit of a financial investment -- the average bottle sells for about $170 -- but the one of a kind sweet tobacco, subtle charred oak and caramelized butterscotch flavor are truly phenomenal. ‘Tis the season to spoil the one you love.

Knob Creek Quarter Oak

Knob Creek Quarter Oak is the newest iteration from Knob Creek’s whiskey house. This limited edition release hopes to capture the high-proof, pre-Prohibition, full flavor style of bourbon. With mellow sweet notes accented by dried fruit and a touch of baking spice, this whiskey is sure to be a holiday hit.

Basil Hayden’s

There is an undeniably bespoke look to a bottle of Basil Hayden’s Kentucky small-batch whiskey. Whether it is the worn look of the labeling or the amber liquid in the bottle, this bourbon screams “gift me.”

Booker’s “Beaten Biscuits”

Booker’s “Beaten Biscuits” is the final release of Booker’sŪ Bourbon 2019 Collection. Booker’s master distiller says that you can expect “hints of oak barrel coming through the sweetness, much like the scent of caramel icing for a cake.” This is the perfect bottle to help create – or forget – new family memories.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select

Could you even trust this list if there wasn’t a Jack Daniel’s option on here? Probably not. The famous Tennessee whiskey house--and favorite of singing icon Frank Sinatra--has stepped it up a notch from their iconic Old No. 7 with this 94-proof Single Barrel Select. The sleek bottle houses some of the smoothest whiskey around. With pronounced caramel notes and a hint of nutmeg, this is one you'll want to enjoy neat.

Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky

Old Forester is one of the original whiskey houses in Kentucky. The company’s 1910 Old Fine Whisky punches way above its weight class with a flavor profile that tastes more decadent than its modestly-priced bottle ($60) would suggest. In each pour, you’ll taste warmed baked oatmeal raisin cookie with a creamy chocolate note that somehow isn’t too sweet -- likely thanks to the heavily charred oak that the whiskey was aged in.

Woodford Reserve Chocolate Malted Rye

Woodford Reserve’s masters collection Chocolate Malted Rye is the perfect gift for the dessert lover in your life. With notes of toasted cocoa nibs, this whiskey manages to capture the essence of dark chocolate without being impossibly sweet. This one-time offering bottle will set you back around $130 but it’s a collector’s item that will spark joy long past the season’s end.

Four Roses Single Barrel

Ever had a whiskey so delicious you didn’t want to share it with company? Well, this is that bottle except, with the price tag of under $50, you won’t feel too bad about gifting this gem away. Four Roses Single Barrel’s uniquely creamy and subtly spicy flavor is balanced by a forward plummy flavor that just works.
